-
Tax benefits – HMRC regulates bonded warehouses, meaning casks stored in bond are VAT exempt. Removing them would trigger a VAT payment on the purchase price.
-
Scotch classification – To be classed as Scotch Whisky, casks must be stored and bottled in Scotland. Moving them elsewhere would remove this classification and reduce their value.
-
In some cases, yes, but not for every cask we sell. Having casks stored across different distilleries can be logistically complex, so we recommend transferring all casks to Lowland Bond for centralised, transparent management.
Yes, they are your casks. You can bottle them, sell them privately, or share them however you like. We can also connect you with our Master Distiller network for expert advice on blending or bottling projects.
All clients receive five years of storage and insurance included when purchasing their cask.
After that, ongoing storage costs are around £70 per year per cask, covering full insurance and bonded storage, billed annually.Whisky casks must be stored in stable, temperate environments generally cool, dry, and well ventilated spaces. The ambient temperature has a major effect on the angel’s share (the natural evaporation of liquid over time).
A well maintained climate helps preserve both the volume and quality of the spirit, which directly influences future value.
Lowland Bond adheres to all industry regulations and environmental standards, ensuring each cask matures in optimal conditions.
If you decide to sell, simply notify Lowland Bond of the buyer or destination. They’ll arrange transport, collection, and delivery. Funds are typically transferred once the cask has been released or received.
Lowland Bond’s warehouses are HMRC regulated bonded facilities. All casks are stored under strict compliance, regularly checked for alcohol content, and subject to random HMRC audits to ensure the whisky remains secure and untampered with.
